Low Lectin Gut Guide
My goal in creating this plant-based Low Lectin Gut Guide was to show you that you can reduce lectins without giving up the benefits of a plant-rich diet.
Plant foods provide valuable nutrients, polyphenols and fiber that help nourish the gut microbiome. However, when the gut barrier is compromised, temporarily reducing certain foods—or changing the way they are prepared—may help create a gentler environment for digestion.
In this guide, you’ll learn how soaking, germinating and properly cooking nuts, seeds, beans and grains can help reduce antinutrients and improve digestibility. For larger beans, pressure cooking after soaking can further reduce lectins and make them easier to digest.
Ayurvedic principles also emphasize warm, soft, moist and well-cooked foods while temporarily reducing foods that are cold, dry, raw or rough. This supports agni, or digestive capacity, while reducing the digestive burden.
The goal isn’t long-term restriction—it’s greater resilience. As the gut barrier and digestive capacity strengthen, properly prepared lectin-containing foods can often be gradually reintroduced, allowing you to enjoy a wider variety of nourishing plant foods again.
